This was my heart Saturday after my first downhill ski run post surgery" - "What the hell was THAT activity?!"
🥰 Henrik Lindeberg reacted to this
Nice to hear you are improving in leaps and bounds even though you are going downhill. A true heart valve mogul. It gives all of us a lift.
In hindsight, skiing was my first indicator something is not right. I suddenly had a hard time keeping up with kids in their late teens and early twenties. I attributed it to getting old. Turns out it was my leaking heart... I haven't skied much later on as it's at... Read more.
What language will you teach them. My wife tells me to watch my language around the grandkids.
@Richard Munson, funny comment... Swiss German. Our son has absolutely no accent when speaking it but his grammar is bad and when he uses the "friend/Du form" rather than the polite form, people probably think what is up with this guy. But he is a halfie so most people probably... Read more.
My german grandmother used to call me a dummer esal and dummkopf on occasion as a kid. She was smiling while she said it of course. We germans are so gregarious. My other german grandmother used to grab my ear in a loving way but it hurt like crazy. I... Read more.
"Dummer Esel" (stupid dunky) und "Dummkopf" (stupid) seems harsh but I guess in the right situation, it is ok. She made Bratwurst herself? Not even my grandparents who were farmers made them themselves, not to mention the liver and blood sausage. They did however do smoked dry meat in the... Read more.
Where to start on what you said that makes me queazy. Blood sausage, butter from a pregnant cow, tongue as a main course, and sticking my arm up a pig giving birth to name a few. Not sure seeing a decapitated chicken excites me but i do recall my kids... Read more.
@ Robert - That is right, Swiss connection which I think we broached some time ago (decade in CH and DK)... Right. My heart was RACING at the end of each run on weekend despite the fact they were not hard runs. I am hoping sincerely there is no new... Read more.
@J Alexander Lassally, you lived in CH? Where? Going back for a couple of weeks in a few days. @Richard Munson, just had some duck blood sausage a couple weeks ago. That was actually even better than the Swiss blood sausage and a lot better than the German blood sausage.... Read more.
Robert, i’m kneeling in front of the toilet as we speak. Poor little defenseless salamanders. One minute enjoying life under a rock, the next being boiled alive in your soup.
@Richard, the salamander we ate is not the small ones you find under rocks. The one we had is at least 1 foot long and they live in the water. I think they were young chinese giant salamanders (andrias davidianus). Sorry we ate the guy. Although we generally eat very... Read more.
Sometimes being off topic is a good thing. I applaud your wife for not eating sally the salamander. Artificial salamander valve might have promise. Maybe a little small though.

Hello Warriors! Today, the 27th, marks my 2nd anniversary on my mitral valve - a fitting Thanksgiving overlap. Although most days things seem "normalish" there is an element of "BS" and "AS" that really sits in my mind. The Before Surgery and After Surgery markers of time. Here is a... Read more.
Happy Anniversary! And I agree with your last sentence❤️
Congrats! It’s a journey before, right after and in the long-term. And rarely, a straight “drive- through”!
I forgot we were both late November '23 heart warriors! Wishing you a great 3rd year, J Alexander!

Hi warriors and my fabled class of 2023 tribe! A quick hello from Utah post surgery... I'm working on increasing confidence for more strenuous hikes... Yesterday, at 8,000 feet I did note my heart say, "WTF is this"... ?! But yes, it is nice to imagine future days where I... Read more.
Great post, glad you are doing well. About 1.5 years after my OHS, I climbed Clingmans Dome in the Smokey Mountains. Very steep grade yet only 1/2 mile climb. It felt so good to do it! It was one of my OHS goals.
Hopping back into this feed to congratulate you, J, on your hiking achievement! I know how good it feels to challenge ourselves and have our hearts pull through for us! Also to say I had an early 2 year checkup post mitral valve re-repair yesterday with excellent results. The cardiologist... Read more.
Sharon - I have thought of you many times - an email update overdue. I will write when done with trip. Glad that valve is looking clean and perfect ! I did not get those superlatives in May but it is behaving...
Good to hear from you, continued good health. Blessings 🙏❤️
