As of this time 8 weeks ago (10:00) p.m. CST I was on the table at Vanderbilt University having an aortic valve replaced and ascending aorta. Amazing how far I've come in such a short time. Have gained more stamina and energy and feel better now then the last 6... Read more.

Two weeks post op for aortic valve replacement with aortia graft. Have noticed thanks to my Fitbit my resting heart rate is running upper 90s. About 10-15 faster than before surgery. I've read this is common after OHS, but still concerning. Talked to my cardiac care nurse Monday and My... Read more.
I had tachycardia something fierce after surgery... It certainly worries me, but nurses and Dr.s said it was very normal to have happen. As long as you are being checked for fluid build up around heart, you are letting dr.s know, it will hopefully subside after a while. Best of... Read more.
Alas, this is very normal, a "side effect" and why many/most are on some sort of betablocker. I went off betablockers after a year and still have a very fast heart beat which I have learned to live with. Sort of. Take care Nathan.
I had a resting heart rate of 85-95 after OHS with a prior resting HR of mid 60s. I understand this is normal. After about two weeks post op, my surgeon also doubled my metoprolol, it came right down. Now its mid 60s to mid 70s. I take 25 mg... Read more.
At 25 mg metoprolol twice daily, I'm in the 50s and 60s at 7 weeks out. I have not experienced the tachycardia that others have, but am pretty blocked to avoid further afib
I agree, my heart rate has concerned me, but not my doctor. Mine has been in the 90's, but I am comfortable and I too take metoprolol

Thanks so much for the comments, support and prayers. I'm sitting up in a chair and have had a nice recovery so far. Nurses say I'm a boring patient; I'm ok with that. They act like chest tubes will come out today. That's my hope cause it's the last big... Read more.
There's pills for pain. Good going start walking asap. I'm 19 days post op and walk 90 min not fast but on a 1.5 incline...it's paying off.
You will feel better after the chest tunes are out. Roseline is right, getting up after that will feel good. Keep up the boring recovery, it's what we all wish for :)!!
Welcome to the other side! It just gets better from here! Just do exactly what they tell you and you'll be out of there in no time! 😊
Awesome... glad you are coming along well. Those chest tubes out will feel so much better!
Best wishes for a complete recovery!! There's something to be said for being a boring patient!! Take care...our prayers are with you.
Those chest tubes were really uncomfortable and you'll feel so much relief now that they're removed. Glad to hearing you're coming along so well. Keep up the good work! Praying for a speedy and complete recovery.
Yay. Congrats Nathan. Glad it's been positive for you. Happy day, the tubes are all out.
