Hi, all! I’m more than 6 months post-OHS for a bicuspid aortic valve replacement and generally doing well. However, I’m still having some sleep issues. Almost every night, I wake around 4 am and struggle to get back to sleep. I’m not having a pounding heart or racing thoughts. I’m... Read more.

I am 5.5 month and yes - sleep is getting better but not back to pre surgery days. I use my adjustable bed to change position mid night, and also two pillows on either side of my arms to get more supported. (FYI, I was awake at exactly 4 AM... Read more.
Don’t feel alone. I was up at 4 am for 2 straight days. Shadow standing on the bed woofing in my face is a wake up call that can give my mitral valve a little start. After a trip outside, getting back to sleep can be tough. It beats cleaning... Read more.
Nice to hear from you Jennifer! So sorry you’re having problems with sleep. Is it possibly a symptom of menopause?
Richard…I started wearing earplugs to bed. My husband can be the one to let the dogs out for nighttime adventures! Sue…I think my menopause issues are done. I hope. I do get pretty warm sometimes during the night, though.
Yes! I thought this was just me! I am 4 months out and wake up at 2am tossing and turning. I feel really good except for the sleep and a few little aches and pains. I’m thinking it’s just my body adjusting back to such a major surgery. If you... Read more.
My sleep pattern is different. In the earlier days post surgery I was exhausted all the time, so will fall asleep quickly, but then wake up from discomfort, and then fall back asleep pretty quickly once I adjust myself and settle back in. Now, almost 4 months out, I could... Read more.
I used to wake by 5:30 AM preserver, no alarm needed. Now I rarely wake up before 7. Sleep patterns changed quite a bit.

To all the ladies who have had a full sternotomy - how long did you wait after surgery to have your first mammogram? I’m about 4 months post OHS, and doing well overall, but I still have some incision pain sometimes. I’m well overdue for a mammogram, but the idea... Read more.
I did one right before surgery and like Rose about a year after
I figure with CTs before and after surgery, if there was an issue of anything suspicious in the breast tissue, it would have been noted to follow up, so I am not planning to have one anytime soon myself at 6 months.

AHA Heart Ball! My husband is on the local AHA board and we’ve been going to this event for years - ironically, years before I knew I had a heart problem. This year I’m proudly wearing a dress that shows off my scar! Support your local American Heart Association!
Beautiful dress….that warrior scar is something to be proud of!
Very handsome couple. Thank you for all you do for the AHA. 🙏❤️
Beautiful photo—thanks for sharing Jennifer! 💗
