The hubby came home yesterday! Only 4 days after his heart surgery. My parents gifted him a recliner ðŸ˜ It's really helping him with the recovery so far.

Thank you everyone, I feel great at the moment. To anyone still going through the ICU phase of it, it gets better, keep you heart in the fight and you'll come out better for it. I hope everyone has a great surgery and recovery!

Congrats on your husband's succesful procedure. I had MR Repair at Mayo Rochester in March. Make sure your husband is extremely diligent on taking his blood thinners if they are prescribed. There is a high risk of bloid clots that can cause a stroke. I was on blood thinners for... Read more.

What made you feel better during your hospital stay after your surgery? Or better yet, what made you feel right at home? I would like to gather some things to make my husband's stay at the hospital as comfortable as possible. I thought of bringing a frame with our family... Read more.

I had my sister bring me pajama pants and slip-on footwear for walking around in. I had my phone and a sudoku book, but I don't remember doing much while at the hospital. And she picked me up a cup of Tazo chai tea with honey and milk each morning... Read more.

Great ideas!! Sasha, is yr Hubby interested in sports?? Take a TV Guide with you..baseball, car racing and Hockey playoffs to listen to on TV could help!!

I traveled really light, so that on check out day there wasn't more stuff to worry about. I also asked all my peeps for no gifts to haul around. Must haves: eye mask, ear plugs, deodorant, basket ball shorts/PJ pants and my ipad. That was it!

Top things for me- digital frame w family pics- eye mask and then my kids brought me my favorite flavor of popscicles. Used my phone just to communicate w close family and get online for this community- there are always questions that pop up right after surgery and my heart... Read more.

to be honest what I valued the most was one of those neck pillows that you use for flying.. I had a lot of neck pain and couldn't get comfortable in the bed so it really helped me..

I agree ...I like the neck pillow also. I have one that you can heat up in the microwave that I got at bed bath and beyond. The nurses would do it for me ...it was so soothing.

For those with a mechanical valve, when were you required to start taking blood thinners? I have heard of people starting to take them a couple of days before their surgery. Is this true? Or did you start taking them immediately following surgery?
