About Me

Born with a heart murmur I really didn't pay much attention to it growing up. Whenever I went to the doctor they always asked "have you always had a heart murmur?" and the answer was always "yes, I was born with it." I'm now 46 years old and this has all kind of happened quickly. About 5 weeks ago I went in for my annual physical with my primary physician, during that check up I was asked how long it had been since I had my hear murmur checked... it had been right at 3 years. My cardiologist at my last appointment in 2014 told me that I hadn't changed over the last 5 years so that I could wait 2-3 years before coming back. Well, 3 years later I'm in their office and told that I now have severe aortic stenosis...don't do anything that gets my heart rate up and don't lift anything and we'll see you again in 90 days. That news was given on a Friday afternoon, April 28th, and after stewing on it for the weekend and talking to friends and family, I called Dr. Ryan's office and scheduled my appointment. May 10th arrives and my wife and I go into the appointment and I'm told right off the bat... I need valve replacement...and sooner rather than later as it was a very severe case. That day we scheduled the surgery for May 31st and it is quickly coming.
