Adam, I really enjoyed reading Judy Mullers story "How a Boob Job Saved My Life", in your newsletter. It made me laugh and cry as I remembered my own surgery, though it was not as big of a roller coaster as Judy's, I could definitely relate to parts. Great writer!... Read more.

At our local hospital they recently incorporated an amniotic membrane, with natural antimicrobial properties to support a heart patient for first time. Sounds like an exciting breakthrough that could provide new ways to treat heart patients https://youtube.com/shorts/we5rggYPLmk?si=xSFSkX3mOeI4L45L

It is fascinating to see how quickly innovation happens in cardiac fields.
So true! Hope you are doing well Raul. We had surgery in the same year I believe.

Immediately after surgery I imagine everyone is on BP meds for a while during recovery. I'm wondering how many people on this site who have had valve replacement, say more than a year ago, that took BP meds before surgery, have you since stopped BP meds or do you continue... Read more.

Me too. I took them before and still taking 15 months after bioprosthesis mitral replacement. Doctors told me that it´s convenient to have pressure under control in order to preserve the valve life time as better as possible.❤️
I took before and after although the meds after are not as strong.
I also took blood pressure meds before but my medication was reduced about 6 months after the surgery.
I took them before was off for 4 months pot surery but back on the meds
I took BP meds before surgery and they were able to be reduced after surgery. One year after surgery a new cardiologist said he didn't think I needed the low 25 mg losartan I was taking. He was okay with me staying on them or stopping them. With some trepidation... Read more.
Taken before and after. Grace, I assume you are taking your BP often. Is it where it needs to be?
Since I have been off the BP meds it is generally 124-134/75-84 which isn't terribly elevated but my Omron keeps reminding me (darn thing!) I'm sometimes measuring as elevated or hypertension stage 1, at rest. 😜
I did not take any before surgery. I took some for an extended period of time after surgery. The cardiologist took me off later on. Your BP isn't bad. Note that some BP meds also lower your heart rate.
I took them before an still do. though its a different one. My Omron does the same thing. so my cardiologist says to take it often. I swear everytime I see the darn thing my BP goes us to 130s. so IDK if its really up or not.
