So nice to be on the other side! Turns out the repair was a success but the valve was in worse shape than they thought. Still in ICU as my own heart beat isn’t kicking in yet and still is reliant on the external pacemaker. Did any ot you have... Read more.

Hi Dorothy. I hope you can get out of ICU soon. Thankfully, I did not have this issue.
I was also in ICU for extra days, 3 in total, my heart rate was too low. it finally kicked in. You sound pretty good, I was no where able to get on the internet for several days, i was out of it.
Welcome to recovery! I didn't have the same issue, but everyone is different. You're in the right place to get the care you need. Be patient and when you feel up to it, walk. The best advice I got was walk, walk, walk. Glad your surgery is behind you!
Hello Dorothy, I had a very low heart rate so was on the pacemaker for a while after surgery. Do not remember it, hubby told me. I spent 7 days in ICU.

When I first started here I had months till surgery. Then it progressed to weeks, then days and now I am down to hours. I couldn’t be as prepared as I am without all of your wise experience and wisdom. I feel prepared because of all of you who have... Read more.
Good luck, Dorothy. We'll be here waiting for you, too! You're going to be just fine.
Hope that everything goes smooth as silk for you!
Dr. Barnhart did my AVR surgery and I have nothing but good things to say about him. You will do great. Other than the recovery beds at Swedish, I had no complaints. They treated me wonderfully before and after surgery. I will keep you in my prayers today.

In anticipation of my upcoming surgery I am trying to get the house (and myself) completely ready. Someone had mentioned that a wedge for the bed helped in allowing you to sleep propped up as laying flat is painful. Most of the wedges I saw looked too skimpy. Finally found... Read more.
Thanks Dorothy. Very useful information. Good luck with surgery and recovery.
I had severe shoulder pain if I tried to sleep flat so the wedge was vital.
