I’m 6 months from surgery this week. Notes from this month include: + In general, back to pre-surgery normal, and then some. The lows are not that low. Things are getting incrementally better, even now. + Trip to London, (posted about earlier) where I got to test my energy &... Read more.

Glad to see that you are getting better. I am surprised to hear that hills are still difficult after 6 months. I am scheduled for my SAVR in April 2024. I have known about my bicuspid condition since i was 10 (I am 56 now). Until a few weeks ago,... Read more.

I am sure you will be fine! I was pretty symptomatic at the time of my surgery, and had given up my favorite hilly hikes well before then. I do walk hills every day, but my elderly dog sets the pace and she’s not much for conversation. I use an... Read more.
Thanks for the details and the kind words. Wishing you well to get back your strength to enjoy the hikes with your friends. ❤️

Thank you! Feel free to reach out anytime… there are a few of us who seem to be about the same age and it is nice to have some kind of reality check, even as everyone has their own experience / health issues / baseline activity level. You sound like... Read more.
CW - Thanks for such an informative post. It sounds like you're doing great. I had issues with shortness of breath on hills and stairs after my surgery and still do, at times. I found that I often change my breathing pattern or even hold my breath under exertion and... Read more.

Thank you, Susan. I hope things will continue to get better in time. I appreciate your encouragement!
Thanks CW. Everyone is different but good to hear feedback and compare to own baseline. My SAVR is scheduled for next week. Fingers Crossed.

I’m about 5 1/2 months out… just came back from a week in London. It was so exciting I barely thought about my heart the whole time. I managed my own bags (a suitcase, a backpack, and my handbag); got over 20k steps a few days; stayed out late, danced,... Read more.
Wow, that's an amazing update. Congratulations!
Wonderful! I’m hoping for the same. That must be so amazing for you. Thank you for the hope that a more active and fit life lies ahead of heart surgery!
I needed to read this today! Thanks for sharing cw! ❤️
Congratulations on being able to fully enjoy your trip to London!! Fantastic. My surgeon says he is going to “ turn back the clock” for me. Maybe I can see Big Ben like you!
Great positive post cw. Continued good health and God bless you 🙏❤️

Thanks everyone. It is nice to have this marker not just for feeling recovered from surgery, but also for feeling way better than I did prior to surgery. Barbara, I hope you do get your clock turned back. That is my hope for myself… still not all the way there,... Read more.

I am a bit over 5 months out of surgery for aortic valve repair and aortic hemiarch replacement. Milestones for this month include completing cardiac rehab, and starting walk / run intervals on a track. It's amazing to be able to run and not be short of breath. It is... Read more.
That’s great!!!!! So happy to hear!!! I wanted to ask you how long did you have the PVCs and PACs? I just wore a monitor and it showed sinus rhythm with rare PVCs and PACs. Waiting for my doctor to explain but I’m assuming I will be continuing medication!!!
I'm right there with you c.w., my surgery a few days before you. I am also starting to experience the same excitement in recovery. Enjoy your hikes!!

Thank you, Marie! Michele, I had them little bit even before surgery, though not as frequently as it was in January. This is the first time it has felt quiet in a while. I haven’t gotten the latest monitor results back yet, but from what I felt, I don’t think... Read more.

Grace, I am glad you are feeling the same excitement! Isn’t it a thrill?! I have very much appreciated your sharing all your wisdom and research over the last few months. To someone who didn’t even know I had valve disease until recently, you’ve been a godsend!
Great to hear cw. It is awesome to hear your own strong heartbeat!

Rose, it sure is :) Laurent, hope your heart settles down soon, too 💓
