Today is my one year anniversary of my heart valve and aortic root aneurysm repair surgery. I feel so emotional today. I had a bicuspid aortic valve and large aortic root aneurysm. The doctor took a picture of it for me. Pretty amazing! One day I'm going in for my routine echocardiogram and the next thing I know I'm at the Heart Valve Clinic at Oklahoma Heart Hospital being told I need open heart surgery next week because I have a large aortic root aneurysm along with the bicuspid aortic valve stenosis. This is May, 2020, and we're in a pandemic! Time just flew by and the next thing I know, I'm in the hospital, by myself. Later they let my husband join me, but no other family members. I wasn't scared. I was ready to 'get r done'. I'm a Special Olympics Coach and special education teacher. I was back in school in August . Walking up to an hour daily before returning to school. This year has been such a blessing! I did however develop a DVT blood clot in my arm the second day I was home from the hospital. Otherwise, I am doing great! I have z few pains here snd there, but given what I've been though, I think I'm doing awesome! I will share a picture of my heart snd aneurysm.
