I can tell you that after wearing a mask at work in the operating room for 41 years, I have never suffered any ill effect nor have I heard of any medical person suffering from any mask related problem. And there were some pretty intense, high stress, lots of moving... Read more.
We are required to wear a mask at my boxing gym also. I tend to breath through my mouth and at times feel out of breath, but for some reason, with the mask I find myself breathing correctly. Maybe I'm more aware of it now. I cant say I like... Read more.
Mike, I don't think it's bad. I am Canadian and ran extensive mileage (way back when the world was in black and white) of about 130 miles a week all year round. We're talking abo ut runs in sub zero Fahrenheit weather. I wore face covering and didn't suffer other... Read more.
I’m lucky where I am, we don’t need masks at all. Our premier (Western Australia) worked hard to keep our state safe and COVID-19 is controlled, hope where you are get better soon
Mike: I had OHS on 9/25 for a mitral valve repair. Starting 10/26, I did cardiac rehab at the heart hospital 3 times a week for five weeks, and wore a mask during each session. I did 30 minutes of cardio each time (spin bike and elliptical) as well as... Read more.

One year ago today I entered the Mayo Clinic bright and early for an operation that changed my life. On February 12th 2019 I went to the doctor for a random echo on my heart. I felt very confident that I was a healthy guy that worked out often only... Read more.
Congratulations on your 1st anniversary Mike! That's a tremendous story and testament to your strong spirit. Keep ticking!
Wow....beautifully said. We all come out better on the other side!
Congratulations Mike, you’ve come a long ways and so glad you’re doing great. God bless you
Congratulations! I remember reading your posts and closely following your recovery since my surgery was a few months after yours. I’m very happy to hear you’re doing well.
Congrats Mike. I hardly visit the site anymore now that I've had my surgery. I just celebrated my 17th month on Tuesday. Amazing how time flies!
I just read your story again and forgot how long you were in the hospital. Man, I feel lucky because I was only in for 5 days and have had no complications. I only take my vitamins every day. I feel blessed to have gone through this before all this... Read more.
Congratulations, I am also a Mayo graduate. It will be 3 years for me in August. I was going back there for my annual physicals but will probably not this year. We did the Mayo brothers tours and their story is pretty amazing.
Mike, congrats. You were an important point of reference for me.
Mike - You definitely had some difficult complications. It's good to know that you got quickly back on track. It's amazing what your own drive and motivation can overcome! Happy First Anniversary and for continuing to support and inspire everyone on this site! All the best!
Congrats on your anniversary! You have been through a lot, but came through with flying colors!
Thanks everyone for your comments. Good to hear from some that I have not heard from in a while.
Happy Anniversary Mike. I also had a longer recovery than most (it was 5 yrs ago) and feel what you've been through. Recovery takes time .....and then one day you're recovered! Take care.
