About Me

I have known that I have a heart murmur most of my life but never knew what it meant or that it could lead to serious health problems. For 40 years, I was blissfully ignorant until my annual physical that year when I asked a little more about it and mentioned that I had a few heavy heart beats recently. Echo was prescribed and bicuspid aortic valve with moderate stenosis was diagnosed. Followed yearly since and last year had progressed to severe but no symptoms. I have consulted 3 surgeons over the past year and will be having a Ross Procedure with Dr. Duke Cameron at Mass General in August. Upon initial diagnosis I was terrified, upset, angry, you name it. I think I experienced every emotion in the book. Through this site, I was able to really calm down and gain peace of mind. This journey has not been easy but I am now at peace with my decisions and am looking forward to being on the recovery side of things.
