Hello everyone! I have been on this site for 11 years(first OHS for aortic valve in 2015). Now I am scheduled for second OHS on May 6 at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston. Nervous and scared being second OHS. Any advice on second surgery ? Also I will be... Read more.
Hi MaryAnne- similarly to you, I had a valve replacement back in 2016, but it was double valve and it my second one. And then I had to have #3 OHS unfortunately last July. I've been on blood thinners for 10 years now. While they are a pain in certain... Read more.
Hi Kate. Thank you. Great suggestions too. I feel better after reading that you had three OHS! Sounds like you are doing great!
I'm glad I could help. I'm not on here much but I pop on at times, and I especially feel for people who need multiple OHS. I never expected to need 3 and I was terrified beforehand so I know what it feels like. I'm grateful to be in this... Read more.
OHS is never easy but a second OHS is easier because you know what to expect. I can't add much as you already had the experience. One thing to (re)consider is the mechanical valve. I don't know your age but wouldn't another tissue valve make sense if you are a... Read more.
Thanks Robert. I chose a mechanical valve mainly because I did not qualify for a TAVR and don’t want to go through OHS again if possible. I am definitely way over 39 in age lol so don’t want to go thru again this in my 80’s. Thank you for your... Read more.
Had a successful second aortic valve replacement surgery yesterday May 6 at Brigham and Woman’s hospital in Boston. On the road to recovery!💜💜

Hi MaryAnne, glad everything went well. I'm 2 weeks post op and last week I had my checkup with my cardiologist. He said you have PE but it will be taken care of with anti-inflammatory medicine Naproxen since it's very minimal. He also said he has seen lots of cases... Read more.
Congrats Maryanne on your successful surgery and now being able to go into the step down unit so quickly!! Also, congrats to you as well Enrique! I pray that both of you have a smooth recovery!
So glad to hear surgery went well. My surgery is tomorrow .. thank you for posting. It gives me a positive feel going in. Have a nice recovery and my prays are with you both Mary Ann and Enrigue.
Thanks Michael, I have read your story about the mechanical valve. You have a very good sense of humor. Good luck to you as well. Claire, I wish you the best in your surgery tomorrow and a quick recovery. Sending you positive vibes and all my prayers.
Great news MaryAnne! I'm so happy that you are posting already. God Bless.
Great on surgery. They will drain fluids off of you in the step down. Just went through it. Am 8 days post-op. Keep going. You will make exponential progress the next three days. Prayers Drn
Congrats on your surgery. I'm impressed that you were better enough to post a report already.

All arteries are clear and all tests are fine. Said surgery will be less invasive and shorter with clear arteries. Sounds good to me! On to surgery for oct 27!
Iam having my surgery on October 29th, I can't even express how nervous Iam.
I know Claire I am too but I allow myself one panic attack a day and then the rest of the time read about all the successful stories on this site and know I will be joining them. You will be too! Hang in there...we will make it! Faith and... Read more.
Mar y Anne, yes having clear arteries is nice plus. My aortic valve sucked was about 1/3 the size it should be, but fortunately my arteries had only minor issues so I hope this is one less hurdle for us both. Mary Anne sending positivity your way.
I'm glad that all your tests are fine! I understand about being nervous! I try not to think about it too much. I guess I'm starting out this next surgery week (Oct. 26). We are all going to be fine. We can pray for each other!
Thinking of all of you, and finding all the recovery stories an inspiration. Have pre-admission tests and my lung CT and function test on Monday (tip to anyone having angiogram... Don't breath shallowly when relax you - low SAO2 means arterial blood test! Ouch!) so I feel I'm not far... Read more.
