**update! its been almost 3 years, wow!** hello! my name is sam, and i live in manhattan and my mom (who lives outside of boston) is scheduled to have her valve replacement on november 30th. i feel lucky to be able to go be with her at the hospital, and even more grateful that there is a pullout sofa in her room for me to sleep on. i don't want to leave her side through this. in the meantime, i'm trying to gather as much intell and general knowledge as i can so that i can not only be a supportive and sympathetic daughter, but an active and well-informed advocate, as well. any words are much appreciated. thank you for sharing all of your stories—they mean so much more to me than you can know. so, hi!
