Well I couldn't cope with the depression and anxiety and being moody it was hurting my kids to see me like that but I started smoking again and most of the depression eased up and not moody but I feel like a failure I would cry for no reason alot... Read more.
That is not good news for you, your heart nor your children who need you. Please try again or get some professional help. You have been given a second chance with surgery. You can do it!
Hi Brenda, You certainly don't need anyone shaming you. You haven't failed, you've had slight detour on the road to quitting. I know people whose only relief from anxiety comes from smoking - it's obviously a relief habit built up over years so difficult to break. But there are many... Read more.
You didn't fail. On the contrary, you succeeded in finding out what DOESN'T work. Now put the cigarettes down and try ANOTHER method. If you succeed AGAIN in finding out what doesn't work, keep trying until you find out what DOES work. You listed four reasons why you needed to... Read more.
Brenda, a step back isn't a failure. It is gaining momentum for going forward. You now say "hopefully Dr can help me out" and they can. With proper antidepressant treatment, and coaching you will put the cigarettes down. My husband is currently on his umpteenth attempt to quit, with the... Read more.
Brenda, I agree with the others that you have not failed. You've already won half the battle in making the decision to quit. I want to share two scriptures with you that can help. The first one is 1 Corinthians 10:13. "But remember that the temptations that come into your... Read more.
I too was a smoker. When I quit 6mos before surgery I felt I had lost my best friend. What I did was start to "vapor" using a liquid with 0 nicotine. It gave me something to occupy my mind and hands. The liquid comes in many strength if you... Read more.
You have been given a new lease on life. Think of so many others that have not been so fortunate. Don't piss away your blessing. Throw those weeds in the trash and don't look back. You can do it!
Brenda, I just wanted to add one more thing. You only fail if you stop trying, so don't give up! More prayers for you!

Can't turn over on side yet body hurts so bad to be on my back all the time any suggestions? How long does the pain last? Don't know how much more I can take
I'm sorry you are still in pain. I had a difficult time sleeping on my left side for a long time. I also had trouble on my back. I would sleep on my right side or the recliner for a long time.
i used to keep very thin pillow on each side (back) turn by turn . This had helped me while i was not allowed to turn over.
I used pillows to sleep propped up for two weeks and then slept on my back fairly comfortably.
Everyone is different. I was VERY uncomfortable flat on my back for many months, and still don't like it a year later. Make sure you are supporting your head and neck when you are sleeping/resting. I found a great deal of relief also supporting my shoulders/upper arms with a bed... Read more.
My incision was on my right side along my breast, and I sleep normally on my right side. I slept for a few weeks in the recliner as I couldn't lay on my right side at all and turning over was tough. I kept pillows for under my knees, and... Read more.
Most people I know have slept in a recliner either powered or manual for the 1st 2 to 4 weeks. I had a nice manual recliner and it was great. I also couldn't tolerate tylenol based meds plus they didn't work very good so we switched to Indomethacin which did... Read more.
try a wedge pillow as it does keep you in an incline position reducing pressure on the sternum. Ive been using one since I came home and believe will soon stop using it. My pain is less and less each day. Healing takes a couple of weeks

Wanted to let everyone know I have officially stopped smoking! Yay! There were complications during my surgery I had almost died! My blood pressure was going crazy and thank God they got it under control! Just for any smokers out there please please please stop smoking definitely before your surgery
👍 Someone and Meredith Bray reacted to this
You're free! Congratulations, Brenda! I stopped 7 years ago. I was very sad for a while - it's like losing a friend. A harmful, demanding, expensive friend - but nicotine is quite the crutch. Give yourself a break when judging your progress. You're experiencing two major events at once.
