I'm so happy to say it's my 1st year Anniversary with my new porcine mitral valve and a repaired tricuspid valve! So many thanks to our online family here with our patriarch Adam leading the way. Needless to say how scary these surgeries are but here I am, one year... Read more.
Another happy Dr. Gillinov patient. I was contemplating flying out there but decided for Dr. Castro for my second surgery (just a half our drive for me, but that wasn't my main decision). He is excellent! Your scar is almost gone. May I ask why you decided on a porcine... Read more.

Hi Robert, yes, I'm another happy Dr. Gillinov patient. Mitral valve repairs/replacements are so specialized and worrisome so I sought out top surgeons and chose him. I believe bovine valves are more frequently used for Aortic replacement, which I may have to do later and I'd have a bovine one... Read more.

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversaryรฐลธลฝโ€ฐ
I am curious why for your mitral valve it was between mechanical and porcine. I was told I could also have a bovine valve, which supposedly tends to last longer compared to a porcine valve. Regarding the scar, my lower 1/2 shows significantly more than my upper 1/2 (which is... Read more.

Now, here's a guitar with heart! My brother made this to benefit ThScience Mill, a STEM based museum in Johnson City, TX. The fundraiser event takes place Oct. 22nd. He has made guitars for various non-profits but how cool is this!
โค๏ธ ๐Ÿฅฐ Adam Pick, Patsy Stewart and reacted to this
It's a fully functional guitar and the model of the heart comes apart to reveal the internal anatomy, red and blue (honoring arteries and veins) decorate the stethoscope chest pieces which serve as knobs for volume and tone. A functioning oximeter can take the players pulse, connect with an attached... Read more.
Really cool. Hope you raise a lot of funds.
Thanks, Ed, Cheryl, Richard and Ana! I thought it was great that of all science correlations to craft a guitar, he thought of our hearts. He took it seriously playing to the beat of melding science, art and music!
Very ingenious. God gave someone an imagination to create beautiful guitars. Wow! So cool. ๐Ÿ‘
Cool! Gonna play the blues with extra heart! - hah, but true.
Wow!! How cool is that that itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs synchronized to the guitaristรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs own heart beat!! Double wow!!
Patsy, that was the over the top aspect that wowed me too!
