About Me

I'm a very active outdoors guy now in my later sixties. I have been monitored for my BAV and aortic aneurysm for decades. In March of 2022 my cardiologist told me my stenosis was approaching severe and my aneurysm was ~47mm. He said I was likely to need surgery by the end of this year. At the time I wasn't very symptomatic and hoped surgery would be delayed. In August the symptoms started big time, mainly shortness of breath and lightheadedness. The wheels were put in motion for more testing and surgery was scheduled. September has been a time of waiting and that's when I found this forum. It has been incredibly helpful to read the stories of so many brave people in a similar situation! My Cardiologist and surgeon recommend a Bentall procedure for me. So that's where I'm headed. My cardiologist also recommends I get an On-X mechanical valve since, apart from this valve issue, I am in very good health and would likely need a another surgery at a more vulnerable point in my life if I had a biologic.
