2 days shy of 6 months post AVR! Had to make a last minute cardiologist appointment this morning due to severe chest pain. Echo shows pericardial tamponade..fluid constricting the heart. Sounds like they will have to drain it.
Oh my! So sorry to hear this. I hope they take care of this quickly and that you'll feel better very soon.
I had fluid buildup around the heart at about 3 weeks after OHS. I had another surgery to drain the fluid. They drained about a litre of fluid. Plus they did a pericardial window which helped. God bless you. I'm glad they have it figured out. Please keep us posted.
William - I'm sorry to see you're in the hospital. I'm sure they're going to quickly get you back on the road to recovery. Sometimes there are detours, but keep moving ahead. Good health and great adventures await you! ❤
Treatment with colchicine for 3-6 months. Already feel 100% better, get to go home tomorrow
That's good news, William! Glad you're feeling better! ❤
I am so sorry! I went through the same ending with a pericardial window...2 liters of fluid drained. Hang in there!

I quietly passed 6 weeks post AVS yesterday on my second day back to work. Everything has been going exceptionally well for me. On February 26th, I rolled into the OR with the plan of valve replacement and a fix for an aortic aneurysm. I woke to hear that the... Read more.
Super helpful comments! I'm headed for surgery on April 29 for a bicuspid aortic valve and aortic aneurysm, and your insights are well-timed.
What a great recovery and a well-considered report! Love to hear about all the walking you do. That is certainly great news about the aneurysm. And wow, I'd never heard of a unicuspid valve. Best to you!
Awesome William... Thank you for the comments. As with Peter here I am going in on May 6th to have aneurysm and valve fixed. I still feel good walking and exercising so I am making sure I keep doing that till the day before my surgery. I think that maybe... Read more.
"You gotta do it so you do it." Pretty much says it all. Thanks for a lovely post. Keep walking. Take care.
Newly installed Resilia tissue valve to replace my severely calcified unicuspid aortic valve! No need for aneurysm repair, so I got a smaller incision to boot.
That’s great, William! Glad you got the valve you were hoping for. I want that one as well. I’ll be rolling into the CC next Wednesday. Leave a light on for me and keep pushing forward!
Congrats. Watching your recovery carefully. I'm supposed to be consulting with Dr. Svensson in person at some point in coming months. Curious how the experience there is/was.
Looking GOOD! Congrats on the new valve. That's what I chose also. Welcome to recovery.
William, looking great! Glad to hear CC treated you well! Welcome home to Michigan! See my journal for a preview (from the backseat) of what it looks like and feels like crossing the border and GETTING HOME! Walk, walk, walk!
