Wait - valve repairs or valve replacements last 10 years? Valve repairs can last a long time if done properly on the right patients. Upwards of 15-20 or longer if lucky. Replacements can wear out naturally at 10-15 years, hence the need for sparing native tissue if possible. Being an athlete will help you in recovery and your heart is healthier than many from that. But, it does not spare you a valve pathology. If they only offer replacements without a dialogue on repair, they are a crappy practice !!!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I’m here while I undergo new testing to see why my symptoms from MVR (diagnosed in 2005) have become so difficult. I’m an amateur bodybuilder going for my pro card and suddenly I couldn’t get through my weight lifting sessions. My ability to do cardio on my cross trainer also has also diminished to zero and I’m only getting about 6k steps a day but even that lays me up if I go too far. Right sided chest pressure is a constant as well as a cough and hoarseness. Sleep is so uncomfortable it takes hours to fall asleep and I awake with a feeling that I need to sit up and breath. PA measured 3.8 on CT. New echo and echo stress being done on the 25th. I just can’t understand how I go from lifting for 2 hours to being out of breath while getting dressed. Im only 42 and this is really hard to process.
