I'd love to hear others' experience with post-surgery arrhythmia. I was doing great after my mitral valve repair surgery, but now I'm a month post-op and am getting regular bouts of arrhythmia. I'm taking extra doses of metoprolol when it happens, but I'm not sure when to really worry and... Read more.
Many mitral patients have expressed arrythmia post surgery - it is an under discussed part of the risks and benefits of this ordeal. The robot surgery is not exempt from this.
I was in Afib for 5 weeks post op. I was on Amiodorone (not spelling it correctly) and some other meds and eventually (5 weeks) it stopped. I still get an occasional palpitation which they tell me not to worry about. I think one month post op is still early... Read more.
Give it at least a couple of months and see what it is then. Metoprolol can help if your heart rate is high but if you "just" have AFib, then I believe Amiodarone is more helpful. Metoprolol also lowers your blood pressure which might lead to more dizziness, especially now... Read more.
I had one episode of v-tach in the hospital because my electrolytes were low from diuretics.
Oh boy, don't get me started ! I had tricuspid repair last Sept and subsequent recurring pericarditis. As soon as Pericarditis started a month after my surgery, I went into accelerated junctional arythmia which jumps back and forth into sinus and back. Still trying to figure it out. No fun
Peggy, I had bouts of afib and aflutter for about six weeks after surgery. Then, they simply stopped. I think that is normal. Continue to work with your cardiologist and hopefully, they will eventually stop.
Thank you all, I really appreciate it! I knew it was a possibility, but no fun when it happens. Sorry for those who are going through it or worse (Kimberly -- good luck!).

Hi all, This is my first post here. I had a mitral valve robotic repair surgery on 2/4/26, so exactly a month ago, at Cedars-Sinai in LA. My surgeon Dr. Joanna Chikwe and nurse practitioner Vivian Burkhart, along with all the inpatient nurses and staff, provided excellent care. My surgery... Read more.

Ocular migraines are a common theme here post heart surgery. I had dozens of auras in the months following my heart surgery. They gradually decreased with time. The arrhythmias i experienced were all short lived and they also gradually decreased with time. Glad your experience was great!
I also had frequent ocular migraines and still have them although not very often now. Never had them before surgery? Lots of heart patients seem to get them. Sounds like other than that you are doing well! Congratulations ❤️
I had them too but I also had them since I was young. I experienced A fib and Aflutter for about six weeks and then it cleared up. Sounds like all is normal but glad they are checking you out.
I had migraine aura for a couple decades before my surgery. The best advice I can give you is to try to figure out your triggers. For me it was bright computer screens, especially white screens, and glare from sunshine on snow. When they happen, I take a naproxen and... Read more.
Thanks everyone! I'm new to this site and didn't see all the replies until now. This is super helpful. The ocular migraines are getting better but the arrythmias getting worse. I did find out that these can actually get worse about a month out from surgery, which is where I'm... Read more.
