Can anyone please share what they were told to do for incision healing and to reduce scarring? My surgeon's office did not tell me too much and I have a few thickened areas that I Hope I can get rid of!! thank you!!!!
I'm going to use Biocornieum - it's FDA approved containing silicone. You can get it from a dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office. My surgeon said 3-4 weeks post op.
Pam, I have used Maderma in the past with success following minor surgery several years ago (suggested by a dermatologist). Walgreens also has a generic version with the same ingredients. My Cardiologist said to be sure there are no scabs left before applying anything (other than soap & water).

I was wondering if people would share how long they took pain meds after surgery? I am day 10 out of surgery and still taking them. If I try to skip a dose I can feel the pain but it is not too bad. I just wonder if I should... Read more.

I don't seem to remember the details too well. My mitral valve repair was almost 2 years ago. I was warned to stay away from some pain meds. I did take the prescribed meds until I could get along well without them. My pain seemed bad for maybe the first... Read more.

Each person handles pain differently. Like Bill I was on Tylenol on day 3 in step down, that's mainly because I am narc intolerant. Tylenol does help I take it about twice a day now when I need it.
I found that a week after surgery all I needed was Naproxen (Aleve).......

Everyone I know who has a rescue greyhound tells me what wonderful, gentle dogs they are. I suspect you've read "Comet's Tale," but if not, it's a lovely story (and an easy read).
Love your dogs. I have whippets. Were they gentle with you when you came home from surgery? I'm going to miss them while I am in the hospital!
Mommy, we want to go for a walk. Get well soon so you can walk us! Hurry!!!
