One year ago today I was undergoing open heart surgery for an aortic valve replacement. Today I am so thankful for my medical team, friends, family and to my many friends on this site, especially Rob Sparling- my anniversary buddy!

Hi all, Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Is anyone experiencing sharp right back flank pain on movement or plural effusion since surgery? Are they related? Thanks

Nancy, I'm sorry you're having pain! Hope you feel much better soon. I had a pleural effusion that they drained in the hospital--the needle went in what felt like the lower back and I did experience some pain in that area for a few days. My effusions lingered several months,... Read more.

With my pleural effusion, I had coughing that would not stop. It was drained in hospital. Not sure if your pain is related. I'd check with your doctor.

I had pleural effusion and it was drained in the hospital before I could be discharged. Wasnâ€™t getting adequate oxygen and was very light-headed. After it was drained I did experience some discomfort for about 2 weeks, but not since. I would also check with your surgeons office or cardiologist.
