One year post Ross Procedure with Dr. Paul Stelzer in New York - I'd have to say my scar is looking quite nice! Hard to believe it's been a year. I am feeling very blessed and thankful for this being behind me. Prayers to all of you in the waiting... Read more.
I had my mitral valve repaired January 2014 and a second open heart surgery for mitral valve replacement August 19th 2016. I've had issues with heart beat in the 160's which resulted in a trip to the ED then admitted to the hospital to start a new med. A few... Read more.

Hi all heart brothers and sisters! Good luck to all upcoming brothers and sisters on their surgeries and recoveries. Wondering how much any of you remember post op in the first 24 or so hours? As I visit more with my husband, it seems there is a significant amount of... Read more.
Check to see if they gave you "Versed". I had it right before they administered the "knock out IV". It "calms" you.....and also takes your memory away. I consider it a "wonder drug", as I didn't want to remember much........the generic name (that I was given) is MIDAZOLAM HCL
Thanks, Rob, for this info! This is probably what they gave me before they let my family come in to see me right before they took me to OR. The anesthesiologist told me he was going to give me something to help me relax and then my family could come... Read more.
First two days my memory is like a movie trailer. I said goodbye to my family and for the next two days just snippets of what happened.
I've always had a good memory so after my first OHS I remembered vertical all of it (except the time asleep during surgery). However my concentration level was good before surgery then after was terrible. Like it went from 10-0 and would zone out alot. It took me about 12... Read more.
I remember everything from ICU on Lisa. Never remember the breathing tube and/or removal, but everything else was very clear.
Only things I forgot (more like didn't take notice of) were: How much to pack? Do I need to supply my own toiletries? Whether having short hair for my Op was beneficial? etc.
I think the scariest part of the memory lapse is - "was I a horrible patient in ICU?" I am terrified of hospitals and not sure of my behavior since I was apparently awake on and off all day and can't remember a thing! I did talk to Dr. Stelzer's... Read more.
Lisa, Being under anesthetic allows you to forget because of the trauma you and your body are going thru. I cannot recall much of my surgery day, except the time leading up till they started taking my under (around 12:00) and after much time has passed til the next day.... Read more.
I remember most everything that happened, but I also declined the versed. OHS was my sixth surgery so although I was nervous I was fluent with the procedures in pre op. I remember my Mom needing to leave the room as the nurse removed the breathing tube (I gagged a... Read more.

Hi heart brothers and sisters - I think I am doing incredibly well - better than anyone - including myself - expected! I am back to walking - my pace has improved to about 3 miles an hour - and I have no problem walking 3+ miles a day. I... Read more.
I'm exactly 4 weeks Pre-surgery and the anxiety is building! Like you, I don't really have any symptoms either going in to surgery. But, I know that I need to have this done. I hope my recovery is as speedy as yours and that I find I do feel better!... Read more.
Hi Lisa, you are doing fabulously! Great to hear that you're recovery so well.
