dr el hamamsy - mt sinai in nyc. be careful of others-others say they do it but research them, read their published papers and ask them how many. there is a great video in learning center about the myths of ross. some will try to talk you out of it. but fo your own research.

Hi, I’m almost 36 and had my ross at age 33. I too had a bisuspid aortic valve and ascending aorta. I had mine done by Dr Burke at University of Washington in Seattle. Him and his team are absolutely amazing, and if I had to choose again, I would choose them every time.

I don’t have any recommendations but look for surgeons who specialize in ROSS. Adam pick the man behind this website might have recommendations. I suggest asking him. He had the ROSS done. What I have learned is a lot of the surgeons specialize in specific procedures. As far as travel yes travel into get the best. One surgeon I listened to said it best. “ people will travel for a trip to Disney world but not for a very important surgery “ after I heard this I made up my mind.

Larry, I am not a doctor so take this for what it is worth. I had an aortic valve replaced. I was willing to travel where my odds were the best. I was also lucky enough to have a friend who is a leading cardiologist in another state. I sent him everything and as a friend he assured me the Duke was more then sufficient so I stayed at home. However after reading abut the Ross and the people here who had it I would have traveled for that procedure. Good Luck on your journey

I recommend choosing a Ross Center. I traveled to NYC for Dr El-Hamamsy 15 months ago. I recommend him and his team very highly. Other Ross surgeons that I know other members have used that you may wish to consult with are Starnes at USC, Burke at UW and Malaisrie in Chicago.

Cedar Sinai in CA (but i am not sure of specific surgeon names) and Dr El Hamamsy at Mt Sinai in NYC. Go to videos section on this site and view Ross Procedure videos. Just my assessment:there are surgeons who say they do Ross and list it in their expertise and those who really do Ross-you want the later. PS At least for us, Cleveland Clinic was not pro-Ross. Maybe if you get to a pediatric surgeon, but for adults, it was a battle for us that we walked away from.
