Incision site healing tips and tricks? How to get internal "dissolvable" stitches to disintegrate faster?
A lot of people have used silicone tape with great success, so you may want to start there. I reacted to the adhesive in the tape and had to abandon it and have been using silicone gel without the tape. The gel has to dry before I can put any... Read more.
Thank you for the ideas! And especially for the realistic timeframe because I don't feel like my surgeon or his team prepared me for just how long this process is and what benchmarks i should have or need to accomplish next. 👍

What did you wear after surgery? Once out of hospital, how much are you able to move arms to put on shirts? I'm not having a sternotomy but am trying to pack for a few weeks post-op as I will be recovering away from my residence to be closer to... Read more.

I had a hemi-sternotomy, but was able to wear T-shirts & sweatshirts. I did find button ups and a robe very useful as well. I had no problems moving my arms after all my lines were removed.
I had a full sternotomy and wore either button shirts or huge Tshirts. If having company or going out, I wore a surgical bra with button shirts. Large T-shirt when hanging out at home.
I prefer buttoned shirts regardless of the type of procedure. It’s just easier. If I get hot, I can un-button a little. Many of them come with a chest pocket, which is handy, too. Cardigan not sweater for the same reason. And stretchy pants, for sure.
All good advice so far. Also, stretchy pants are important as most of us leave the hospital with extra weight from fluid retention. Slip on shoes can also be helpful - bending forward can be uncomfortable. Best of luck to you.
For the first few weeks I wore sweatshirts with tank tops underneath. Sweatpants or jeans were fine. I later graduated to tees with the same tanks underneath. I got front closing bras but didn't like them. I think I went to regular bras and other clothes,at about two months. Now... Read more.

I'm curious how many community members have had (1)severe mitral stenosis (2) robotic repair or replacement (3) type of valve if replaced?
🥰 Vikram Kaushik reacted to this
I had severe mitral stenosis and regurgitation before my surgery on October 1st. I had a 15 year old porcine valve though, so I was happy with how long it lasted. That's why I chose to go with the same type again!
I had arotic stenosis and valve replaced with mechanical valve on X
Tracy did you have significant lung pressure from the mitral stenosis? How is your recovery going?
Thanks Robert, I am going through the info as I can trying to learn more.
Hi, I had severe stenosis w/calcification and heart failure. I had no idea, thinking it was due to something else. I had a valve replacement in another country. Immediately was diagnosed with endomitreal cancer. So I followed OHS with hysterectomy and chemo/immunotherapy. My heart valve recalcified within a couple of... Read more.
