Does anyone has hypertension with aortic stenosis?
I did have hypertension when I had stenosis. It was controlled with meds. I had my surgery 7.5 years ago. What questions do you have?
Hi Rose! I have aortic stenosis and I just was diagnosed with hypertension. I thought stenosis was enough of the bad news😔. I am really anxious that I have to take the BP medication. I am scared of the side effects and really upset I will have to be very... Read more.
Before surgery I took Lisinopril. After surgery I take a low dose of Amlodopine which works in conjunction with Metoprolol. I've always eaten whatever I want other than watching my sodium intake. It could be that you have high blood pressure in addition to aortic stenosis and the two may... Read more.
Yes it's possible. My doctor put me on Lisinopril but I made a research that Ramapril is a little safer. How did you feel after taking Lisinopril. I wish I could do it naturally. Not only you have to watch for sodium but also for potassium when you take BP... Read more.
When I was on Lisinopril, I ate whatever I wanted except, I think, grapefruit? I can't remember if the grapefruit restriction was for my SVT though. Yes I am still taking Amlodopine and I also take Metoprolol.
Wow that is surprising! So you didn't have to avoid salty things and high pottasium foods?

I have an aortic stenosis and was just diagnosed with high blood pressure. I was put on medication Lisinopril to lower my BP. I am taking 1/3 of the 5mg pill. I read that with stenosis you blood pressure needs to be a little higher because the heart needs help... Read more.

Sorry you are going through this. I don't have experience but sending you calm vibes!! Have you talked to a dr?
It might be different with aortic valve, I don’t know, but for mitral valve stenosis I was told lower BP is better. Only so much blood can go through per beat. Higher BP can’t change that, it only speeds up the inevitable enlargement of the atrium (for mitral valve stenosis),... Read more.
Hope it eases your mind about taking the BP med! I don’t want to have to take anything either, but sometimes we must…
I know that I do have to take the BP medication to keep me safe. I just wish I could lower my pressure naturally. Taking the medication I have to be extremely careful what I eat (low salt and potassium diet). Its all very new and makes me feel depressed!

Yesterday, I went to interview a third surgeon. He was everything I was hoping for - wise, thoughtful and compassionate with a lot of experience. I think I found the one! He told me I am not ready for surgery yet - I have to closely monitor the progression. He... Read more.
Facing heart surgery with even the most experienced surgeon is overwhelming Isabella—I could barely get through my first appt with a surgeon without stopping to get myself together. It’s also why communities like this one are so important to this whole process. It may be routine for them but it’s... Read more.
Thank you Sue! And yes this community is amazing to have. First of all, it made me realized that I am not alone that there are so many people going through it and that its fixable. When I first learned I had stenosis I was completely devastated and a thought... Read more.
Glad you found a surgeon you like! Congratulations. You have to be comfortable with your doctors.
I still cry when I go to the hospital where I had OHS 9 years ago. Emotions are real. Crying is a good release and so very very normal.
Because it is overwhelming. The emotions are BIG! I'm glad you found a surgeon you feel comfortable with.
