Hey all! Yesterday was the two-week anniversary of my mini-theracotomy AVR procedure. I have two questions for the community. 1. I have not yet weaned myself off of oxycodone. Im making progress, but still need a couple each day. Is this normal, or am I a wimp? Im trying to... Read more.

After 2 weeks i was starting to wean onto Tylenol but we all have different limits. I started walking slowly but remember out side to figure in the trip back home.
Hi Gary. We share AVR dates which means yesterday was my 2-week anniversary too. I was envious when I heard how quickly you were released from hospital! It took me a few more days. great that you’re able to walk so much! I’m trying to get out to walk 2-3... Read more.
Gary - You will probably want to touch base with your surgeon if your pain level is that high. Otherwise, you can see if Tylenol gives you enough relief. As far as walking goes, i walked for 10 minutes, 3-4 times a day, for the first week. Then increased it... Read more.
Gary, I agree with Susan Lynn. Check with your doctor and take it easy on the walking. Continued good health and recovery and God bless you
Gary, congratulations on your 2 week Anniversary! If I’m remembering right, you only get a prescription for x amount of pills and no refill. Keep cutting back and relying more on Tylenol. If when the oxycodone is gone and the pain is too much for Tylenol, you need to speak... Read more.
Dear Gary, folks said it all. Don't rush. I know you are in great shape, but this is serious stuff, your heart has a deep cut, a scar that needs healing. Imagine you had leg muscle ruptured. How long would you have to wait for it to heal, be careful... Read more.
Hello, I don't think you need to rush to get off unless you're worried about dependence. I just had a median sternotomy for Ross procedure in March and I was off of Oxy by day 8 post op. Still taking some tylenol.

Thanks again to everyone for your support. I am working every day on my recovery but I know I need to be patient. Even though my mini-thoracotomy was last week I haven’t yet stopped the use of my pain pills. Can anyone tell me long others have remained on pain... Read more.
Wow, only last week. Be patient. Heart surgery is not a walk in the park. You will heal but don’t rush it. Happy easter.
I honestly can't remember how long it was but I just know I had to stay ahead of the pain. You can try to wean yourself off with Tylenol. I do remember that's how I did it, just don't remember the timeline. Hang in there. 👍
Which pain meds? I'm still on paracetamol as needed 10 days out, mostly to sleep
I think it was about 3 weeks with a very gradual weaning off.
