I saw an interventional cardiologist for 20 yrs before my surgery. This may not apply to your situation, but I thought I would share as I am not sure that a interventional cardiologist is necessarily better than a cardiologist who may not be an interventional cardiologist. My 20 year plus interventional cardiologist recently became a spokesperson for the local hospital and I felt maybe his priorities had changed because in two of four of my appointments after my surgery he took personal calls during my appointments and in one of these appointments he told me my pain post surgery was "all in my head". A few weeks later I learned from a pulmonologist in the ER I had a sternal non union. I have recently moved to a different cardiologist that is not an interventional cardiologist but one recommended by a coworker. So far, my first appointment with him was no different than one with my previous interventional cardiologist. I suspect that a good cardiologist is one that is in tune with his patients no matter if he/she is an interventional or not.
