Hello everyone,Does anyone with a mechanical heart valve eat pomegranate, orange, or lemon? Are there any precautions to take with these fruits while on warfarin?

To my knowledge, INR is mostly affected by eating greens. I haven't heard of citrus fruits affecting INR but that's not to say they don't. I suggest that you frequently monitor INR levels for a few months so you can figure out what affect you. A friend of mine had his mechanical valve for 40 years without any reoperation.. I am not sure of his daily lifestyle since he lived pretty far from me.

Thanks for your reply. This is amazing to hear like this update. So , if we maintain regular warfarin dosage the valve will last linger?

Absolutely you must maintain a safe warfarin level in order to avoid clots. And I just remembered my nursing school roommate has had her mechanical valve for 30 years.
