3 weeks post surgery this coming Monday. Have done 2 cardiac rehab sessions and they are pushing me hard due to my fitness prior to the op. I think I will end up fitter than before the op at this rate! I'm happy ,being a 6 day a week gym... Read more.

Congrats Colette. What a great update. Traveling is amazing can’t wait to see posts of place you go
Wow. It's 2-plus weeks since mine and I don't start cardiac rehab for another month. I remarked at the length of time and was told they always wait 4-6 weeks. There doesn't seem to be much standardizing about all this.
It sound like you are doing really great! Keep it up! I have an elliptical at home and I usually watch movies and/or read the news (in big fonts) to make the time fly by. I didn't know they have wheat packs. My grandma made them from the cherry pits... Read more.

Well it’s been 11 days post aortic valve replacement surgery. Sorry there has been no update since my admission. Everything went smoothly. All done under 3 hrs and the Dr said the beautiful new valve slotted in just perfectly . Full sternotomy. Woke up in ICU , no knowledge of... Read more.
Welcome to recovery! Sounds like you are doing well. I had the same upper back and shoulder pain that you mentioned. It bothered me more than anything! Your heart rate will gradually settle down. Are you on a beta blocker?
I had the same shoulder and back pain as well. So glad everything went well and your recovery seems to be going good too. Welcome to recovery. Now is the time to listen to your body.
It looks like that all in all you are doing really well and have a great attitude. My shoulders and back also felt pretty stiff. I didn't want to do any massages in order not to put indirect pressure on the chest. So what I did is using a what... Read more.
One's heart rate is almost always high after surgery and then slows down eventually. Sometimes one is prescribed a betablocker to slow the heart down in order to give one's heart a rest for a few months. Pain in shoulders and back is common because of the awkward position one... Read more.
No no beta blockers. The cardiologist, the surgeon and the rehab Dr said just give it time…the heart will realize it no longer needs to work as hard as it did with a faulty valve. Just takes time. So glad to hear that shoulder and upper back pain in common.... Read more.
My heart rate was up in the 90's for a few months. It will come down in time. Cardiac rehab was great. It really sets you up for quick healing. I liked it so much that I joined the gym on days it is open to the public. 6 months... Read more.

5 days post aortic valve replacement surgery. 2 days ICU. Minimal pain due to drugs during and post surgery. Dr said the beautiful valve fitted perfectly. The team were happy, heart started naturally. Everything going well except resting heart rate. Sitting at 100. Dr said due to inflammation and trauma... Read more.

Sounds like you are doing really well! I always say to stay ahead of the pain. I'm sorry you had a rough night but hopefully under control now❤️
So happy to hear from you, Colette; that you're doing good. My husband was a Compounding Pharmacist & we had pharmacies for years. I so remember him telling all of our patients/customers to always stay ahead of the pain...do not wait because you won't get 100% results from the meds.... Read more.
I had a friend who had his heart transplant at St. Vincent's....he is going on 26 yrs and still kicking. His name is Bob Tway III his son is the professional golfer Bob Tway IV that had a very successful career on the PGA Tour ....he holed out a bunker... Read more.
I didn't have any pain so I can't quit relate. But I think the tactic is that you take the initial dose and then slowly reduce the dose until you can completely stop it. I would think that should be within about 2-4 weeks. But talk to your surgeon about... Read more.
