I wanted to warn folks about my HIt Heparin reaction. My main symptom was muscle cramping and memory loss. I had very specific holes in my memory after being home about 5 days. I woke up one morning and asked my husband what happened to my chest. The home health nurse suggested anxiety. 🤨 My nurse daughter finally told my husband things weren’t adding up - take me to the emergency room. He did. When we got there they ran tests, noted my platelets had dropped dramatically and diagnosed HiT. They then immediately ran multiple tests for blood clots. (I had none, somehow. ) I was put on the correct regimen and had an additional 7 day hospital stay. Memory loss seems to be a rare indicator for HIT. But in my case, it may have saved my life. I have no residual effects from the HiT. (Thank you family, medical staff and GOD!)
