Diagnosed 13 years ago with Aortic Stenosis and an Aneurysm of the Ascending Aorta. Bulging of aorta faded as the primary concern, as it only increased a few millimeters over that time (peaking at 4.7 cm). Aortic valve progressively got worse, leading to severe aortic stenosis which pushed me, finally, to surgery. Initally saw Dr. Gerety (retired), then Dr. Castlemain at the Albuquerque Heart Hospital. Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Lars Svensson's team was an incredible experience. Chose the On-X mechanical valve and had my ascending aortic aneurysm replaced as well. Dr. Svensson used his J-incision, hemi-sternomy. Native aortic valve discovered to be actually unicuspid during surgery. 2 full days in intensive care and 3 days in the beautiful step-down unit. Two weeks later, am walking 3 miles at a clip and recovering well.
