In October 2021, my doctor heard a heart murmur and advised me to get an echocardiogram. In February 2022, the cardiologist I was referred to told me I had moderate aortic stenosis and we would take a wait and see approach. He scheduled me back in a year. In February 2023, I had my second echocardiogram. My stenosis took a significant jump, I was told I had a bicuspid aortic valve and we would continue another year with a wait and watch approach then go to Cleveland Clinic. Rather than waiting, my wife and I elected to schedule a virtual second opinion with Cleveland Clinic where Dr. Milind Desai advised to get additional testing in 6 months instead of 1 year and explained that he was also concerned about my ascending aorta. In August 2023, I visited Cleveland Clinic for an echocardiogram and CT Scan with Contrast. My aortic stenosis had increased to a moderate severe level and my ascending aorta had continued to increase in size to 4.3 cm. I was told to cut my running back to jogging or walking and not to lift over 30lbs. I was referred to surgeon Dr Lars Svensson who he expects will most likely do an aortic valve replacement along with an ascending aorta replacement. My heart valve surgery was performed on 10/20/2023 where I received the Edwards Inspiris Resilia valve. I had a follow up echocardiogram on 11/28/2023 with my local cardiologist. He reported that my echocardiogram and the new valve looks fantastic.
