I’m scheduled for a Ross Procedure on May 20, and a repair of an aortic aneurysm. While there are some nervous moments, I’m mostly grateful that I have an issue that can be fixed, and that I can get back to having a very active life. It was summer 2019 when I went to my family Dr to get a physical. I was in super shape, but was experiencing dizzy spells, and sometimes my workouts were way harder than they should have been, and my post workout recovery would take days. My D. Heard a murmur and sent me for an echo which revealed a bicuspid valve. When I met with the cardiologist I learned I had aortic stenosis and regurgitation as well as an enlarged aorta. It was a very bare bones discussion until I asked him if I could continue to exercise. He said of course, but when he learned I did CrossFit and running races, he looked at me with shock and simply said, “you can’t do any of that anymore”. It was a painful meeting. The last few years have been monitoring, though I did have a small heart attack while on my rowing machine is 2021. I will have my Ross Procedure and aneurysm repaired on May 20, 2025.
