About Me

My name is Mike and I live in Texas. On a Friday evening in December 2020, I began experiencing tachycardia and arrhythmia. I ended up in the hospital and was finally able to convert to a normal rhythm. One last test before I was to be sent home. Unfortunately, the sonogram showed severe aortic stenosis with regurgitation. The recommendation is for replacement of my aortic valve. The news hit me like a TON of bricks. Other than that episode of arrhythmia, I had zero symptoms. I went from being very active my whole life (marathon running, weightlifting, and rowing) to feeling...terrified, depressed, anxious, fragile, and probably a dozen other emotions. I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical On-X one on 3/2/2020 at UT Southwestern in Dallas. My surgeon, Dr. Doolabh and his team were nothing short of amazing. Many of my fears proved to be unfounded. I recovered well and am now back to my previous level of activity. This has been a wild ride, but it has made me much more appreciative of the things I previously took for granted. This site has been a tremendous help in navigating this unexpected journey. Thanks to all!
