Send Jeff a NoteAbout Me
48 years old. Never knew I had any issues until a routine check up at my primary care physicians office determined I had a murmur about seven years ago. After an MRI and TEE they found I had MVP with moderate regurgitation. I was A-systematic for the most part until a few years ago when I started having occasional incidents of shortness of breath which would interfere with my sleep sometimes and had to use a diuretic for relief. I recently have been having bouts of atrial fibrillation so my Cardiologist Dr. John Peterson at Springhill / Shands University of FL thought it was time to speak with a surgeon. The surgeon recommended Mitral Valve Repair with a St. Jude Mechanical valve as a back up plan. I received a second opinion with Advent Health, formally known as Florida Hospital. Through the years I have spent time researching Mitral Valve specialists and I chose Dr. Kevin Accola from Advent Health to be my surgeon. He is a specialist when it comes to Mitral Valve repair and I have read many reviews from former patients of his who had successful repairs with excellent outcomes. Though the thought of heart surgery can be scary, I look forward to feeling normal again. I thought I would share with you the findings of my recent TEE which was completed about a month ago:
Findings -
Mitral Valve: The P2 scallop of the posterior mitral leaflet is flail (flail gap is 5mm). There is associated eccentric, anteriorly directed, severe mitral regurgitation
Aortic Valve: Aortic valve appears tricuspid.
Tricuspid Valve: Tricuspid regurgitation, mild.
2D Measurements: Ejection Fraction: 60%
I am currently trying to put a checklist together on what to bring to the hospital. I am looking for a recliner this 4th of July weekend.
