It's now 8 days post AVR surgery and starting to feel human. I went to rehab after day five and am going home tomorrow due to hightened smell and taste issues, other than that I'm doing pretty darn well. I am able to walk unassisted (with a walker in case... Read more.

Being home makes a big difference. I hope you hit no bumps on the road to recovery.
I understand about the smells. I almost forgot that issue. So glad to hear you're getting around!
I'm as you know 7 days out and foods I loved, make me sick now! I like (which is bad) Caffeine Free Coke. My Dad bought me some today and I about lost it with one sip. It tasted strange to me. I can't even use my normal toothpaste. Glad... Read more.
I am so glad you feel better minus the smell and taste issues. I am sorry to hear about that. I hope everything goes well at home.
John Lyons also wrote about this after his surgery. Everything tasted like metal. Adam, site founder, weighed in noting that those smell/taste distortions are pretty normal. Hope it passes soon.
taste was an issue for me post op, way more than smells. I lived on ice water, cold fruit and toast for a week before I could try anything else....popsicles are good too, especially the red ones! ;-)

Chuck, Rose's husband here. Her surgery went well. She us sleeping in the ICU now. I'm sure she will post here as soon as she is able. Thank you all for your support. It has really helped her.

Chuck, make sure you eat, stay hydrated, and take a few breathers for yourself. I've been a caregiver, and you'll need your strength. Bless you.

This is Chuck Rose's husband. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30. She went into surgery at 7:30. Should be a good 5 or more hours till I see her.
