Inwas told after my surgery to expect to take antibiotics forever before dental work. Due to bacteria in the mouth that can affect your heart. My dentist concurs.

I have always taken antibiotics (2000 mg of amoxicillin) one hour prior to any dental work both before and after surgery since I was in my teens. I'm 63 now.
Have always pre-medicated both since discovering my heart condition and post-surgery. My doctors all agree it’s better safe than sorry, given that I don’t have any allergies to antibiotics.
