Kristin, I checked the site. For some reason, there are not many recommendations in Atlanta area. I asked my healthcare friends, a couple of them recommended Dr Leshowner at Emory. He was also recommended by the first surgeon I consulted with. I saw Adam’s interview of Dr Takayama, and checked out his profile and reviews, his strong experience in aortic surgery was very convincing. NYP of course is ranked very high in cardiovascular surgery. I also considered going to Cleveland. I also checked the scores of the hospitals on cardiovascular surgeries and valves surgeries. Local hospitals scores are less than ideal.

Kristin- I had my mitral valve repaired in the Emory system. The surgeon who did mine may be retired. I have had good results from my robotic MVR. My aortic aneurysms were repaired at Cleveland Clinic this year. I made the right decision to go up there. There are some extra logistics going out of state, but it is worth it if you find the right surgeon. I would encourage getting two or three opinions if you have time. I don't know who does mitral valve repairs at Piedmont, but they have a large cardiothoracic program. The resources and community on this site will help you navigate this process. I did not find it till several months after my first surgery. You are going to do great!
