Wow, you would think they are fused into the bone like other surgical hardware. If sternum is fused, why put in bigger screws? Whats next, bolts, lag screws. I always was told that a fused bone was stronger after fusion. Shows what i don’t know.

Has anyone out there had screws from their sternal plates retract? I am 1 1/2 years post op from AVR and this is happening to me. I have a bump in the middle of my chest where the screws are coming out, but my sternum has long ago fused. Anyone... Read more.
Right??? I asked if this was common and the answer was “not very common, but it happensâ€. So…I couldn’t win Powerball instead? 🤣
