I am new to this community and grateful for the resources as I await my consult appointment with the surgeon. I am a 57-year-old active Ironman with a bicuspid aortic valve that has progressed to severe stenosis. I guess you confused me by saying you will defer race in july based on severe heart valve symptoms but will be in another race in september. So what will change in 2 months? Just curious.
Everybody has a different recovery, but I'm not sure an Ironman competition would be on my schedule for September. But the good news is that you are in good shape so hopefully, that will mean an uneventful and quick recovery.
It's a great idea to have a goal for after surgery. Being conditioned to the work you put into preparing for your Ironmans will be to your great benefit in recovery. Wishing you well.❤️‍🩹
Richard, cardiologist approved continuing to train at low HR until surgery can be scheduled (hopefully in May) to maintain my base. If no delays in surgery/recovery, cardiologist thinks the September race may be possible.
