About Me

I am a 49 year old (in September 2022) happily married father of 2 spectacular adults! At 15 years old during my routine sports physical Dr. heard an anomaly and after some testing found that I had aortic insufficiency. I immediately saw a pediatric cardiologist and have seen my share of them in the last 26 years. Through the years my diagnosis has changed from bicuspid to tricuspid and now back to bicuspid as the imaging has continued to improve. I am technically unrestricted but do watch how I exercise in order to prolong my surgery date as much as possible. With technology changing so rapidly I figure the longer I wait, the better. That being said I am very active. I play soccer, backpack, golf, wakeboard, run, workout, and enjoy many other activities. I think the fact that I am so active keeps my heart healthier and keeps the surgery away. I do not do any maximum isometric exercising, other than what I have to do during job duties. Like most people, the disease has caused anxiety and distress on/off throughout my adult life. I've had some run-ins with caffeine, and I've found that the more relaxed I am on a day to day level really effects all that I do. Including my cardiac health. I don't have a surgery date, but thought I'd get this journal started in order to meet people and ask/answer questions. The more we read, the more we realize we're not alone in the journey.
