I'm a Canadian living on Vancouver Island and my home is next to a park on the Salish Sea, only 2 blocks from the ocean. I'm surrounded by resorts and it is truly paradise here. The big flaw in my paradise is that there is only 1 major highway the length of the island and it is a 2.5 hour drive under ideal conditions from my home to the hospital that handles cardiac issues. I always allow at least an extra hour in case of accidents or road work. However, I'm grateful because the alternative would be 45 min drive, 2 hrs on a ferry and another hour drive to a hospital in Vancouver. I was halfway through typing my story but lost it, so will update in the morning.
