Send Rebecca a NoteAbout Me
I've known I had a murmur since kindergarten and at age 35 I was told I had mitral valve prolapse. That was in 1985. Fast forward 2004 and was diagnosed with aortic valve sclerosis. In 2007 that was updated to mild stenosis at AVA of 1.5. It gradually decreased by .1 - even stalling for a couple of years, until this year it is .67 and my cardiologist says it's time to replace it. It wasn't until a CAT scan and heart cath/angiogram that a biscuspid valve was confirmed. Echo only hinted at it. My father had his aortic valve replaced in 2010 at age 86, and my sister will also have hers replaced soon. It's interesting it runs in our family but I'm the only one (so far) diagnosed with a bicuspid valve.
I meet with Dr. Song at OHSU Hospital in Portland, OR, on November 19th for my pre-op and to discuss valve types and my myriad questions.
