About Me

Like many of you, learning that I had a serious heart condition came as quite a shock. Sure I was increasingly tired & short of breath, but I thought it was due to natural causes, not my heart. I was turning 68, but had always had great blood pressure & no health problems. I took no medication at all. Unknown to me, my mitral valve was not doing its job. I thought I had a healthy heart, but in a matter of weeks found myself facing open heart surgery. I have now been diagnosed with severe mitral prolapse, with very severe regurgitation, shortness of breath, & extreme fatigue. My once dependable heart had now become a stranger, with loud, lumpy beats I had never noticed before. Anxiety seemed to rise out of nowhere & take over my mind and body, against my will. My prayers for peace were answered when I was able to move forward in my plans & finding the right surgeon was critical to that end. Finding this website and reading other people's stories has been a lifeline. It seems we all share similar fears and anxieties about this great journey we are on, and that is a great comfort to me. Next week is my date of surgery, 02/05/2019. At the moment, I'm at peace with the surgery and am very grateful for my friends & loving family! God is indeed very good! Blessings on all other heart warriors!
