Send Jim a NoteAbout Me
I've had mitral valve prolapse ever since I was a teenager. My doctor then said no big deal. Even went through the antibiotics phase with the dentist over the years. But it wasn't until about a year and a half ago when working in the yard, and my heart wouldn't slow down... I got the A-fib diagnosis, and first met my cardiologist and had an echo that I was made aware that "someday, not if but when you'll need to get that valve fixed or replaced."
So my annual visit and echo this last January proved to be the 'when' -- he referred me to a surgeon to discuss options.
I have a deep and abiding faith in our Lord. I know that if I hadn't had the Afib, I'd never of seen a cardiologist, never had anyone to tell me my mitral valve was a problem now. But when he said "surgeon" and "open-heart surgery" I have to admit I was a bit gob-smacked!
My wife and I met with the surgeon last week and he gave me Adam's book. I'm still a little dizzy with what's happening, but I am going to learn as much as I can about this, ask a ton of questions and find my path through it all. I already have friends praying for me, and once I get a firm date for surgery, I'll expand my support network.
I'm very grateful for this community and hope to be able to give my support and prayers to all of you as well.
