I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve stenosis (AVS) following a routine annual examination in October of 2022. This put me in a bit of a panic and I consulted with numerous cardiologist and cardiac surgeons from across the globe. The response from most of the surgeons was that the stenosis was bordering severe- therefore it was best to immediately go through a surgical procedure to replace the valve. As I met with a larger cross section of cardiologists it was clear to me that a “life cycle management approach “that involved a team of a cardiologist and surgeon might be the way to go. Also while it is important to be aware of your situation, it was equally important to find a team of medical professionals you could trust to take you through this journey. I have been in the watchful waiting phase for any symptoms of AVS and am now beginning to think that I am slowing down a tad in my activity levels . I suspect I will undergo a surgical procedure of AV replacement at the Structural Heart & Valve Center NYP / Columbia University Medical Center in the first half of 2024. I am finding Adams Blog to be invaluable for getting insights and experiences of others who are on the same journey as me. UPDATE - Surgery scheduled for March 29, 2024, I went for an update visit on March 13 2024 to meet my cardiologist Dr. Susheel Kodali at the Structural Heart and Valve Center, Columbia University Medical Center New York-Presbyterian Hospital. I had shared that I was experiencing some fatigue , the doctor also indicated that the Eco test revealed a deterioration in the parameters around the functioning of the aortic valve. We agreed that this would be a good time to go for a valve through a surgical procedure. The suggestion was that the EDWARDS INSPIRIS RESILIA AORTIC VALVE 23MM might be appropriate using a minimally invasive surgical procedure. This was followed by a visit on March 19, 2024 to perform a CAROTID DOPPLER ULTRASOUND test for the left and right vertebral artery flow which revealed did not reveal evidence of plaque. A CARDIAC Catheterization was also performed to identify any Non-obstructive coronary artery disease . This test revealed a normal right heart pressures, preserved cardiac output. I am now scheduled to underdo surgery by Dr. Isaac George on Friday 29th March , 2024
