My husband was just diagnosed right before Christmas with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve and Dilated Ascending Aorta after a murmur was detected during a routine work physical. He is scheduled for open heart surgery (Bentall procedure) and will receive the On-X valve. We are simultaneously terrified of the upcoming process while being grateful it was caught... His immediate family is in the process of being screened and thankfully we just found out our 2 year old son does not have the same condition. We don’t know anyone who has this and aren’t sure what to expect going forward. Just wanted to join this community to get a better perspective of what we are dealing with and hopefully get some encouragement for my husband- any advice is greatly appreciated! I would also love to get some insight from heart patients on how I can be a good care giver for him during recovery- any suggestions or do's and don'ts for me are welcome!
