Thank you Robert I did hear that there may be some remodeling after maze and shrinking dof the atrium. Although mine is just slightly enlarged. I believe it is the best procedure for the best outcome in my situation. You input was very valuable. Good luck with your recovery.
My chamber was VERY enlarged and the result of the surgery made it a lot smaller. So I guess a pretty successful surgery. But the cords became too long resulting in severe leakage again and requiring another OHS. I don't know how the "God of OHS" couldn't foresee that but... Read more.

Hi Robert, when you told that your surgeon was the "God" of mitral valve repair you refer to your actual surgeon, the one in your heart valve story?
Yes, the "god of valve repair" did my first surgery. I didn't mention his name in my story. My second surgery was done by Dr. Castro. Both worked at the same hospital before. Dr. Castro is absolutely outstanding. My mother did some research and found Dr. Castro which is how... Read more.
I have observed the doctors and they all see this issues surgery in a pragmatic way, as easy experiences, I think its because they are not the ones who's chest is being cut. When I was 18 years old I was stabbed in a fight, in the hospital the ER... Read more.
That's quite a story. And I thought I was a rushed to plan OHS within a week or so. You had no time to make a decision. But at the end, you just do what needs to be done. No point in dwelling in the past except from learning from... Read more.
@Markos - Yes, you capture an important point. Cardiac surgeons and many cardiologists tend to minimize the drastic impacts of these surgeries. I suppose it is "job security" to recruit patients and under mention the side effects and personal impacts. On the flip side, a great surgical team will be... Read more.
I am not sure it's "job security". Unless you are an urgent case, you won't get an appointment for several months. So it's not that they rely on your surgery to pay the bills. But there are two issues to consider. 1) They won't tell you about minimal invasive surgery... Read more.

Hi Robert, what injury did you had in your mitral valve? Mine is a Flail of the A3 segment due to a broken tendinous chord. I would love to know how does the repair works for you, I have concerns about the output of a repair through the years to... Read more.

I don't want to share too much medical history on a public forum. Unfortunately, the forum doesn't allow private messages. Having said that, my case is probably a bit extreme. In general, a repair of the chordae should last a lifetime. You might also have some breakage between leaflets which... Read more.
A proper repair should last well in excess of 10-15 years, which is longer than a bio valve... A repair is always preferred first time, if possible. (Which is why you want a great technician for the repair)
@Adam can you look into allowing for private messages from legit forum members? I could share some more info with Alexander about my condition that might be helpful but I don't want to spread that into a public forum.
In my surgery, the surgeon told me before that she tried to repair the mitral valve as a first option. But when I was awake at the first visit in the hospital, she told me that it had been impossible repairing for her, since the valve was too much calcified,... Read more.
so actually you are on blood thinners.... its a big deal? Does the blood thinners disturb any of your daily routines?
I get more nose bleeding and when you bleed it takes longer to stop. For nose bleeding, I don't push tissue up my nose anymore. Because as soon as you pull the tissue out, it starts bleeding again. Instead, I simply press on the outside of my nose for a... Read more.
