Hi Louise , My bad valve is the Aortic so I don't know about the Mitral medication/repair/replace options. It strikes me as strange that our symptoms are pretty much exactly the same though. I hope you can get some fast resolution though as I completely understand the level of suffering... Read more.

Louise, you asked for advice re medication vs operation. For severe mitral regurgitation, medication is not effective as a long-term solution. If the issues you mentioned are caused by mitral regurgitation, then your docs will likely suggest repairing (or sometimes replacing) the mitral valve. Repairing the valve often never needs... Hi. I am 40 and just had mitral valve replacement via open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. I feel good, so much better and can't wait to fully heal to really get my life back. My Dr tried to repair the valve but it was not going to last long... Read more.
