I had aortic valve surgery 6 months ago and received a mechanical valve. The noise was huge the day after the surgery, but in the months since I don't notice it at all until I go to bed and everything is quiet. The sound is minimal and frankly a comforting feeling to know all is well inside. I am, of course, on Coumadin for life. Since surgery I have more colds and minor health problems which means the INR level goes a bit haywire, but with blood test often we get it back to normal in short time. My surgeon told me ahead of time the root valve was small and they may need to change plans from tissue to mechanical valve. I fought the idea but post surgery when they explained the reason for the change, I know they made the best decision. Good luck. I know exactly the turmoil you are going through. The good thing is this one will last my lifetime and no repeat surgery.
